Alexander Sheriff Custody Role
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is the county arresting and law-enforcement agency. It is not the physical jail documented by the current research. IDOC’s Pulaski inspection says Pulaski County Detention Center contract-houses Alexander detainees. The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association also identifies the Pulaski facility as Alexander County’s jail address. This distinction controls where a release record should be requested.
Ask the Sheriff for the arrest report, transport or transfer record, and the name of the receiving custodian. Ask Pulaski for the booking, movement, and physical release entry. An Alexander Circuit Court order can supply the legal authority. These records complement one another. None should be stretched beyond the event its agency recorded.
Confirm an Alexander Release
Begin with the person’s full name, date of birth if appropriate, approximate arrest date, and court case or booking number. Ask which facility received the person. A current roster can show that a name is displayed now, but disappearance does not distinguish bond release, dismissal, sentence completion, transfer to IDOC, movement under USMS authority, or transfer to another county.
- Contact the Alexander Sheriff to confirm the arrest and receiving custodian.
- Request the receiving jail’s movement history and accomplished release or transfer entry.
- Check the Alexander court docket for the order or case disposition.
- Continue in IDOC, the federal docket, BOP, or another county if the record names that destination.
- Use Illinois VINE as a supporting check, not the only proof.
The Alexander County release-record overview maps these branches. A strong community-release conclusion pairs a non-transfer jail exit with the court action that authorized it. If dates differ, retain both timestamps and ask each record creator about its own entry.
Alexander Sheriff Record Request
No sheriff-specific official request email or form was verified. Call the office and ask for its current FOIA officer and submission instructions. A focused request should seek existing records, not ask staff to create a report saying who is free. Name the arrest, approximate period, and the record types needed.

General county hours should not be assumed to be the Sheriff’s records-counter hours. Confirm before traveling. Under Illinois FOIA, a public body generally has five business days to respond to a noncommercial request, subject to a lawful extension and exemptions. That is a response framework, not guaranteed production within five days.
Alexander Arrest Record Fields
A Sheriff request may seek the existing arrest report, arrest date and time, arresting officer or unit, alleged charges, transport log, receiving facility, and any transfer acknowledgment the agency keeps. The physical jail record carries a different set of facts. It may include booking number, admission, bond or hold entries, release date and time, release authority, and destination.
| Office | Useful release-related record |
|---|---|
| Alexander Sheriff | Arrest, transport, and receiving-custodian records |
| Pulaski Detention | Booking, movement, release, transfer, and property entries |
| Alexander Circuit Clerk | Orders, docket events, bond, disposition, and sentence |
| IDOC | State admission, status, prison release, MSR, and discharge |
| Federal agencies | Federal order, USMS movement, or BOP status |
Ask each office to search by alternate name spelling and identifiers if the first search fails. Redaction or withholding may apply to confidential, juvenile, investigatory, private, security, or medical material. A missing public result is not proof that no arrest or release occurred.
Alexander Court Confirms Authority
The court docket persists after a live jail display changes. The Alexander Circuit Clerk provides case-search and records-request links. A docket can show bond, dismissal, a commitment order, sentence credit, or another judicial act. The order time may precede the completed physical release because jail staff still must verify identity, check other holds, return property, and close the custody episode.
The Circuit Clerk is at the same Washington Avenue courthouse address, but it is a separate record custodian. Its record does not replace the Pulaski movement log. When a court order says release and the jail record says transfer, ask both offices to clarify the sequence. Do not silently choose the interpretation that sounds most final.
For pretrial supervision questions, Alexander’s Office of Statewide Pretrial Services contacts are not a jail release desk. Their role concerns supervision and procedure after a qualifying court action. Custody confirmation still belongs with the jail and court.
Alexander State Transfer Records
A transfer from Pulaski to IDOC is a release from the county facility but continued incarceration. Search the IDOC form by last name, IDOC number, or birthdate. Compare the IDOC number, date of birth, sentencing county, mittimus, admission date, parent institution, status, and location before deciding the record matches.
- Parent Institution
- The state facility responsible for the IDOC record.
- Projected Parole Date
- A forward-looking estimate, not a completed release.
- Last Paroled Date
- A past supervision event when the field is populated.
- Projected Discharge Date
- An estimate for the end of sentence or supervision, which can be later than prison exit.
A person can leave prison and remain on mandatory supervised release, commonly called MSR. A final discharge is not the same event as the gate release. Request IDOC’s release checklist, notification, sentence calculation, detainer disposition, or final discharge record when public display fields do not answer the question.
Alexander Federal Custody Branch
Pulaski also houses USMS prisoners. If the Sheriff routed a person into federal custody, the Alexander state docket may not explain the later exit. USMS has no public person locator. A federal pretrial case is checked through the federal docket and agency confirmation. A sentenced person delivered to BOP can later be checked in the BOP Inmate Locator.
In BOP, RELEASED with a past date means the person left BOP custody. It does not prove the end of federal supervision or all other custody. IN TRANSIT, UNKNOWN, a future date, a regional office, or a community corrections location needs more work. Older federal records, especially before 1982, may require a records request.
A USMS transfer out of Pulaski is not a community release unless the federal record supports that conclusion. Request the Pulaski movement entry and identify the federal court order before stating what occurred.
Historical ICE Contract Warning
The old Tri-County/Pulaski agreement in ICE’s archive is historical. Illinois TRUST Act section 15(g) required covered civil immigration detention contracts to end by 2022. No current Alexander County ICE agreement was verified. Therefore, neither an Alexander arrest nor a Pulaski roster disappearance supports an assumption of ICE transfer.
If independent facts point to ICE, use the official locator with the A-number and country of birth, or exact biographical fields. ICE says the system covers adults currently detained and some released in the prior 60 days, but exact-match rules, processing lag, exclusions, and safety limits can prevent a result. A released result means left ICE custody, not necessarily returned to Alexander County.
Tamms Is Historical Custody
Tamms Correctional Center is a prominent part of Alexander County corrections history, but it closed in January 2013. It is not a current Sheriff jail, receiving facility, release counter, or roster. A modern search that routes an arrested person to Tamms would be wrong.
Former Tamms prisoners were transferred before closure or later left through IDOC. Their durable records belong with IDOC’s search, master files, release documents, and archives. The county’s official history supplies the closure context, while IDOC supplies the person-level state record.
Note: Always ask which agency created the fact being sought; arrest, transport, jail exit, court authority, and final discharge can belong to different offices.
